Abstract

Lojban, as any free non-profit project, is in need of volunteers. There are local needs in Fairfax Virginia USA to help with handling product orders and such for the non-profit Logical Language Group. There are online projects such as maintaining web sites, ftp sites, and mailing lists. There are big projects to be done for Lojban itself, such as getting the dictionary published, or developing the textbook. There are little projects that everyone can do, like translating a short story into Lojban. There are also some Lojban conventions and meetings, and help is required there. Local Lojban groups and teaching to interested individuals would help the spread of the language. There are many volunteer opportunities.

  Translation of the Bible (New and Old Testaments) into Lojban. Some preliminary work on the Lord's Prayer has been done and is available at the Lojban ftp site. Some Greek-to-Lojban translation has also been done for Christian texts by Nick Nicholas, also available at the web site. No complete book or chapter has been translated yet, so there remains much to be done. Any translation will also entail the development of new vocabulary to handle religious, ancient near-east, and Roman/Greek terms. A translation from any language would be helpful, although at some point a translation directly from the Hebrew and Greek will need to be done. Even the translation of just one Psalm will help towards completion, so major commitment is not necessary. Some ability to express in Lojban is required.

  Lojban Journalist Translator

  Someone to translate daily news into Lojban. The translated material would be a digest of current stories, posted daily to a web site and/or newsgroup and/or mailing list. The work involved would not be heavy, just the top stories every day in summary detail. This would be a great chance to help learners of Lojban, as well as more sophisticated users. No journalistic or translation experience necessary, but helpful. A basic Lojban composition ability is required.
